Reviews are even a problem on google. I wouldn’t trust a review that I haven’t written.
It’s missing images. Shiny images.
Yes please! This would go a long way in helping more people dump the alternatives.
I wonder if a federated system could work for this. Moderation and hosting are really tough.
I think it would be kind of a nightmare, but I am assuming it would bring the vibe of city subreddits or nextdoor in the same way lemmy/mastodon/misskey bring reddit/bluechecks/japan twitter
@otters_raft There is https://lib.reviews/
Not federated I think.
#libreviewslib.reviews seems to be just a five-star rating and a text box. We desperately need an open source review platform, but it needs to be simple, just a like/dislike, a question and answer tips box, ands taggable categories like foursquare had.
I really miss foursquare, and am convinced google and yelp killed it. I could go to any city in the western hemisphere, filter by vegetarian/vegan friendly, and always get incredible recommendations. Google and yelp by comparison are entirely gamed.
Osm has no capacity to handle the influx of problems with reviews. It’s open source, it doesn’t stop anyone from building their own commercial review service on top of OSM. They will be responsible for dealing with the mess that will inevitably arrive and keep it away from OSM itself.
OSM does maps, and does it well, and allows others to build on top of it. That’s all it needs to do.
