The flag has the triangle pointing right, the Nazis and Hamas have it pointing down. What a disingenuous Wikipedia entry.

Did you know Gaza doesn’t teach the holocaust? That seems like a big red flag to me, pun intended.

And the president of Palestine also has a doctorate in Holocaust Denialism and has made repeated claims about Nazi Germany not being all that bad? Casting doubt on the six million jews figure.

And their children’s media even teaching kids about “wiping out the jews

Or it’s just referring to the flag, sure. If so, why are they pinging Gaza’s enemies with Gaza’s own ethnic identity (the red triangle meaning arab)? That seems really odd to me.

nothing here states support of israel’s actions.

only clear examples of antisemitism within the region.

this may come as a shock to you, brace yourself, but not everything is black and white. As an anarchist, you should know better. You should also edit your comment as it’s too close to being antisemitic, which is against the no hate-speech rules.

I think Envy’s response was over the top but to be fair here, you’re the one who started with black-and-white discourse by putting anything remotely related to Palestine/Gaza into the antisemitism box. I wish you would just acknowledge that you posted misinformation, it’s not a big deal.

… that Hamas is antisemitic is not exactly a shocking revelation. The red triangle remains controversial and the connection to the Holocaust is not easily dismissed - not least because the inverted red triangle as a stand-alone symbol had very little currency in modern discourse before Hamas started using it to mark Israeli targets.

You’re kinda proving my point. Whether or not Hamas is antisemitic says absolutely nothing about whether the symbol is.

Let’s create our own reality where symbols mean something else so we can demonize the people we hate better! Yay, now we’ve reached tankie-levels of campism.

… if the symbol has an immediate and visceral connection to historical antisemitism, is used by an antisemitic group, and has little history of use before its use against an enemy perceived as Jewish…

… what exactly do you think the symbol is, if not antisemitic?

This is basic dogwhistle shit. Next will you tell me the iron cross has a history outside of Nazism, so neonazis and their supporters using it means nothing, actually?

Let’s create our own reality where symbols mean something else so we can demonize the people we hate better! Yay, now we’ve reached tankie-levels of campism.

No, this is examining context and usage to determine that it is most likely a symbol used by antisemites with antisemitic reasons in an antisemitic context, despite the attempts of other people to adopt the symbol - as used by antisemites, for antisemitic reasons - for non-antisemitic reasons. And, considering that the symbol has been used in real-world attacks on non-Israeli Jews, and that many of the people we’re discussing - campist fuckwits - are openly on the record as being pro-ethnic cleansing of Jewish people, specifically, from a one-state solution in the region, I don’t really think that “This symbol isn’t antisemitic!” holds much water.

                oh, no, you misunderstand me.

I’m suggesting it’s more likely that the red arrow Hamas uses is referring to the holocaust instead of the arab identity. Why would they highlight targets in their propaganda videos with their own ethnic identity when they have an extensive history of antisemitism?

No I understood you. I know you’re suggesting that, and your source is that it looks similar to a symbol that most people don’t even know and that wasn’t antisemitic to begin with because it was used for a variety of political prisoners.

Look you can cast doubt on what Hamas was thinking internally, by all means. But the generally accepted origin (which is what matters) is the Palestinian flag. So when you act like this symbol is definitely a symbol of antisemitism you’re stooping to tankie-level campist discourse and spreading misinformation.

Yet the person probably complains about Jews labeling any criticism of Israel as being antisemitism.

By the way, perhaps a topic for another day but Zionism is merely the opinion that Jews deserve their own ethno state in the Levant (surrounded by Muslim ethno states).

By using the word as a slur betrays the ProPal antisemitism which has been hush hush amongst the global Left until now.

Funnily enough neo-nazis (well before this conflict) have always used zionist as a dog whistle to mean jew

it doesn’t surprise me to see progressives latching onto antisemitism

It is I think partially attributable to the now debunked Protocol of the Elders of Zion which asserted that Jews secretly control the world. My housemate actually stated “All Jews are rich though, aren’t they” 🤦‍♂️

There is also the (understandable IMO) White Westerner guilt. The more productive way to alleviate the guilt is not to always unquestionably take on board every complaint of brown people, but do things like Aaron Swartz did: he kind-of died trying to share a library of academic papers with the entire world for free (although he was Jewish).

I see there are a lot of Anarchists in this community and none of us support the expansion of settlements in the West Bank. That is good but I wish there was more outright condemnation here and in the news in general. How are Gazans meant to trust the same won’t happen to them soon especially under Trump’s oversight? Instead there is a firehose of Gaza hyperbole distracting from this sticking point.

user seems to have deleted their account of a year or two old. very bizarre, guess they had a moment of realisation that they were antisemitic afterall
