Did they already bill Russia? The Soviets were as happy as the Nazis to invade Poland, it was the Red Army that destroyed most of the infrastructure later during the war, and the Soviets stole Galicia. Should be a solid claim.

And from Germany they already got Prussia, Pomerania and Silesia for compensation - including one of the two main industrial areas in Germany back then. Do they account for that?

Galicia was majority Ukrainian. It’s the Polish who stole it in the first place during the Soviet-Polish war.

Thanks, I did google it to make sure, after writing the funny comment. Apparently it’s a coincidence that the names are the same, the Polish name is the Latin version of its capital city, Halych, which is derived from the Easter Slavic word for a bird. In Spanish the region is Galitzia, to distinguish the names and to imitate how a polish would pronounce it I guess.

Spanish name is its evolution from the Latin Gallaeicia, the specific celtic people in the region.

I should have edited the comment after the research so that it’s a funny without being misinformation, though.

Fun fact: there is a similarly named region in Turkey, Galatia, that has a similar etymology as spanish Galicia. Galatia is called Galatia for the Gauls that lived there. Also celts but other celts.

Sounds very like playing to a particular audience and diverting attention to cultural issues rather dealing with issues of substance.

Polish right wing leaders do this at least once a year. Just like they love to blame everything on the EU while being it‘s strongest recipient.

No nation suffered under Nazi Germany occupation like Poland. A huge percentage of their civilian population where trapped in Towns/Ghettos (warsaw ghetto for example). It traumatized them hard.
