Hmm does that mean I can get a car that doesn’t have a stupid unstoppable seatbelt alarm that constantly goes off when I’ve got a bag on the passenger seat? And without all the other irritating driver “aids” that have to be switched off every time the ignition is switched on?

I’m starting to think my next car will be a Yank tank.

So there is a loophole that make it possible to import such car and the trade deal threatens to not close it. That’s a little less sensational than what the tittle says.

remember, people, if the government won’t protect you, you’ll have to do it yourself. don’t just accept unsafe vehicles right next to you.

I think a lot of Europeans just think that the stuff in the United States won’t affect them. So all they’re doing is just making fun of people in the United States and saying the US is stupid and stuff. I don’t know why Europeans aren’t trying harder to actually help the people in the US who want to resist - actually resist.

Europeans know constantly that every little shit happening in that land affects us. That’s why we keep talking about it. Every single bad decision hits here like the latest cool stupid thing to happen. All the time. We are not new at this. The whole reason we keep involved in reading the news and participanting pointing out how everything is so bad there.

The irony is that I think only an American or someone dangerously americanized would be this naive. The world follows US politics closely because their politics influence is felt everywhere. You can‘t sit down to watch a movie, buy groceries or go out clubbing without being reminded who the top dog is.

And if you really think anyone will come to help the US you are gravely mistaken. No one has the power to stop the orange other than the citizens of the United States itself. No one else has the power to intervene. The US run the fucking world.

That and how many are seemingly oblivious to the growing far right/fascist movements in their own countries. You’d think Europe is a leftist utopia based on Lemmy, but it seems like half of Europe is already controlled by the far right while the other half is just barely keeping them out of power.

To a certain extent at least, I think the right wing racist sort of people (you know, Nazis, but not exclusively Nazis) are encouraging this, they’re saying to kowtow to the US, because the US is now a leader in the world for getting Nazi things implemented.

We have a lot of little cuck right wing “leaders” right now an they’ve been itching for a boot to lick for almost a century.

The current Swedish “Moderate party” sided with the Nazis during WW2 and had to change their name after. Now they are best buds with Swedens Nazi Party and will let them into the government next election (they’re practically in already since they dictate policy in exchange for political support).

Don’t know where you live, but Im seeing more and more of them. Quite a few at the Croatian coast where I am right now. All kinds of EU licence plates.

So many in fact, I was chilling and thinking how hard it would be to start an eu initiative to ban cars with such a bad field of view.

Now I find out more are coming?!

The new trend in many cities is to lower the speed limits, ban or limit cars in the centres, and promote bikes. Big cars will have an hard time with that plan.

Moreover, all old garages built more than 20/30 years ago are often too short for many modern cars, just imagine American monsters.

Finding a parking for a large car may be a nightmare in large cities too in general. Imagine also driving in historical centres through small roads with a big car.

They could certainly circulate in general, after all we have buses too, but I think they would be massively unpractical and we are not even considering costs, fuel, and limitations for the emissions.

The bigger models might also be too heavy to be driven with a regular (car) driver’s license. With a B Class the max weight is 3500 kg.

You are right, they won’t be such a massive hit as in the US, but seeing a few of them use multiple parking spaces also won’t be a calming sight.

On the other hand, take a cue from a few US cities where parking spaces are kept too small for these monstrosities. Fines for double parking could become a nice revenue stream

It depends on people’s reaction. I am pretty sure that there will be a few idiots buying them in car-crazy countries like Italy. I highly doubt they would sell in The Netherlands at all instead.

Quite a few in Austria, too. Mostly Rams. I remember one with license plate along the line of “Love USA”, then one with a sticker “HATERS HOTLINE 0800-321-EAT-SHIT”. A great tell that only assholes with insecurities drive these.
