How’d it go? Are there any recaps out yet?
Haven’t seen any recaps but i did see 43% of delegates voted against a measure that would make DSA an actual anti-zionist org: https://x.com/GoodVibePolitik/status/1954581357302042942
It thankfully passed, but you really shouldn’t be spending time as an org debating zionists. They should just kick em out
They should just kick em out
This resolution not only affirms the commitment of the organization to anti-Zionism, but establishes clear, enforceable red lines regarding members and endorsed elected officials around Palestine.
Sounds to me like the resolution includes the power to do exactly that.
It’s time for a well needed purge.
It’s technically been within the power of the NPC to do it for almost a decade under their expulsion clause. They have just made a point not to because most of their precious “electeds” are Zionists. I guess this resolution and the one that preceded it at the last convention are directives to exercise that power.
I kind of wonder how someone can call themselves a socialist and then support Israel’s existence.
They are racists
Its mostly crackers who believe in settler solidarity
progressive except about Palestine was and still kinda is very normalised position.
They want to keep claiming their precious elected officials without ever holding them accountable.
I actually left in 2024 because they gutted a resolution similar to this first at convention then locally so it’s good to see something similar passed.
DSA is full of Zionists which is why I would never work with them at this point
That would’ve certainly been seen as a DemCent vs Anti-DemCent fight internally. I doubt anyone left in DSA is still personally pro-zionist, but radlib/libsoc attitudes still remain.
Why is it seen as a demcent issue? Because it involves a central structure for disciplining members and branches? What is the central DSA for if not that? Is it just an advertising agency?
Because it involves a central structure for disciplining members and branches?
Absolutely. The DSA is a big tent and closing the tent risks splitting the organization. DSA is only relevant because its so big which is directly because it is a big tent. We have anarchists, socdems, leftcoms, trots, MLs etc from all across a huge nation sharing the same organization. People are legitimately afraid that if the DSA went fully demcent it completely fracture because there isn’t much of an ideological consensus other than “are you a socialist?”
That said the tent should absolutely be closed to Zionists. Most people have come around to enforcing some sort of political line upon national elected officials. But they really don’t want national telling them their priorities.
What is the central DSA for if not that? Is it just an advertising agency?
Facilitating, training, intercommunication and providing resources between chapters. The vast majority of DSA local organizers aren’t interested in any sort of electoralism and want to focus on direct action and base building. And they’re right to think that should be the priority. Even the PSL agrees on that.
Just for clarity: the DSA is absolutely not a party in any sense and no one is considering turning it into a party. DSA resolved eventual make a political party but that would be a separate organization.
IMO only the most deluded electoralist thinks the DSA will lead us through any sort of socialist revolution. But it is laying the groundwork to make that possible. No vanguard party can ever hope to be nationally relevant without that groundwork.
I’ve seen that the party walked back the ban on democratic centralism, which was not really enforced anyways but is a positive sign of the increase in influence of Red Star, MUG, and Reform & Revolution, who are to my knowledge the 3 demcent caucuses.
If that’s true, I think it’s fantastic as far as nearly-just-symbolic gestures go, since it indicates a conscious change in direction to having less direct hostility toward MLs.
Yep, I agree! Definitely a good sign, even if it doesn’t achieve much for the DSA (no way to know yet, it was a symbolic repeal after all) it does mean that the USian progressives are becoming more comfortable with MLs and accepting of our tactics.

It was never a ban. You could be expelled for being in a DemCent org but that was only to prevent hijacking and splitting.
Its also not a party and a huge number of active members don’t want it to be a party. They would rather it be solely a vehicle for direct action and mass movement building and shun all electoralism.
heresiarch made a Recap of the DSA convention
Not a DSA member but afaik: the NPC moved a bit further left, there’s now a slim majority of ML/trot/maoist/anarchist, with a few members in between the left and right wings as well. Beforehand the right and center held an outright majority on the NPC and the left passing anything required someone from the Bread and Roses center caucus to chip in. As other comments mentioned, an antizionist resolution made it through. AOC censure resolution didn’t get to be voted on in time, but I think it’s fairly likely given the new NPC composition.
