Holy fucking shit it’s like talking to a brick wall. These people are seemingly incapable of understanding who “pirates” and why they “pirate”. I keep trying to explain that if I were to make a game, I wouldn’t give a damn if people pirate because I just want people to enjoy the game. If people can afford it, cool, share among your friends!

I swear to god these nerds can’t understand the corpo isn’t “losing revenue” when someone pirates. They either weren’t going to buy the game anyway or someone is just trying it out…

These people are just corpo bootlickers catgirl-disgust

that’s the post screm-a aaaah

I have never met a single real person who’s against piracy. The most negative reaction I got from a real person is them more or less going, “imagine being a dirty poor who’s too poor to pay for shit.” It’s consumerist snobbery, but even they didn’t use some bullshit “but think of the corps.” That’s loser shit.

My conclusion is that “but think of the corps” found exclusively on R*ddit and R*ddit-adjacent spaces are paid shills. Absolutely nobody normal cares about piracy. It’s like how R*ddit and other online spaces were filled with “aktually, you don’t need the start menu” when Windows 8 dropped and how all those em-dollar sign shilling completely disappeared when Windows 8.1 brought back the start menu.

Really depends where you live. Back where mu family is from in the global South, it’s pretty normal because no one can afford luxury entertainment items, but in the global north there is that kind of “consumerist snobbery” as AssortedBiscuits called it. It’s getting less common every day now as things get more expensive.

I think, too, it’s an indoctrination by the corpos and media that piracy is highly illegal and that you can get arrested for it. Some people I talked to see it like stealing from a store.

I was arguing with a guy in real life who was saying that corporations being able to use non-compete agreements was a good thing. Every one of his points was essentially, “But what about X situation where corps will lose money?”.

This guy is a gig worker struggling to survive but is deeply concerned with some corporation losing money.
