Underneath is a docking port surrounded by 8 spider engines, which were hidden in the decoupler of the lander stage. On top of the lander can is a science Jr and a small cargo storage module with an antenna right on top. The lander stage that was left behind was just a fuel tank and engine with landing legs and a decoupler. There’s plenty more odd designs where that cam from too!
