There are now multiple browser extensions to redirect outgoing links to subs in the threadiverse to your local instance of choice

Kbin Linker Extension
https://github.com/daniel-lxs/kbin-link

Lemmy Linker Extension
https://github.com/FackJox/lemmy-link

This is a major downside to how federation works currently and something we shouldn’t need extensions for, but as a stopgap solution I am glad they exist.

@liaizon @fediverse In a way, this issue lies on browsers lacking decent support for custom-schemes, stuff like handling multiple handlers and ability to know if the scheme is registered at all (so a fallback can be presented instead).

Heck, it’s even something that Mozilla was aware all the way back to 2010 and with the early Fediverse (OStatus) in mind. https://blog.mozilla.org/webdev/2010/07/26/registerprotocolhandler-enhancing-the-federated-web/

@lanodan @fediverse yep! this is coming even more apparent with the rise of even more federated spaces. come on @mozilla can we move browsers forward just a little in this area?

Nice! There’s also a tool called sub.rehab with crowdsourced input on where communities have moved to (e.g. Discord, Kbin, etc).

Feel free to add in any other Reddit refugee locations!

@liaizon @tchambers @fediverse Hundred percent agree we shouldn’t need these work arounds. However, it’s amazing the pace of change and how fast these issues are being resolved. Think about how long some of the issues continue to plague us on various platforms and tools from Apple Microsoft google and others.
