    Interesting decision. All 4 reasons given kind of amount to the same thing, but I don’t personally know the admins’ experience so don’t want to be too judgemental. I still think it’s worth saying that making communities more closed off right now is unfortunate timing.

      Yeah, this seems a wasteful choice. It also makes me think that the route of making a personal instance just for a log-in that doesn’t have to worry about the moderators defederating is the best bet.

        i hope they make it easier to do. It’ would suck to have others block kbin.social but it may be inevitable. hope not

    Not trying to troll or anything but isn’t this a bit ironic. A Lemmy instance defederating from 2 new and growing instances. This kind of proves the point that whichever instance you choose DOES matter and the Admins of that instance can give or takeaway just as easily as those on “centralized” Reddit. Seems like a big crack in the fediverse where the instances are basically just independent forums with tenuous links between them that could be cut at any time.
