I consider this vintage because it’s a technique.

You could walk into a salon and ask for feathered hair and the stylist would know what to do. You can’t today, unless the stylist is older or has a penchant for retro styles.

I remember in the 90s I couldn’t remember the new word for the style I liked and said, “feathered”. The two stylists in the shop had no idea how to do that. “Layered”. That was the word. Feathering was out and layering was in.
