I am not a fan of F-Droid signing apps instead of the developer as it creates a third party that has to be trusted. If it is possible to get them from the official source without F-Droid signature it would be very nice.
You can use Obtainium to download them directly from GiHub, amd some other sources.
From my understanding, the fdroid process ensures the build is automated base on the source code provided. This prevents developer from sneaking in additional code in the build.
