  • The no child left behind policy was intended to ensure that kids got extra help when needed. In reality schools determined it was way easier to lower the bar than to get some kids to learn. Kids and shitty parents have figured this out and will game the system as much as possible. Clear on it being a baby bush policy. FWIW I think the intent was good, but making more demands of the education without providing additional resources and no way of enforcing quality has reached an inevitable point.

  • Grade school: teacher fired for passing failing students so he wouldn’t have to deal with them next year. This was before “no child left behind” existed. At the end of one of the school years a girl tripped and fell and somehow got a metal tent spike through her neck. She was ok, just had a wicked scar.

Middle school: someone did the old flush the fireworks thing and somehow revealed a major flaw in the plumbing that required demolishing a whole building. We didn’t have water on campus for the last month. This was in Phoenix and it was getting stupid hot, so that whole month was half days.

High school: At the end of the year before I started a bunch of students got arrested for using an empty science lab to make meth. In my junior year there was a party that got a couple kids killed in a drive by.

  • Being insincerely nice and positive. Typically see the term used in trans forums when one might post a picture asking if they pass, seeking criticism and maybe tips on improving their appearance and getting a lot of “you’re perfect just like you are” comments. While positive and attempting to be uplifting, they ignore the purpose of the post.

  • I agree 1 was GOAT. They nailed weaving the story line in a way that made a railroaded story feel natural. 2 might as well have been a rails shooter, part of the story was literally on a railroad. If that was satire by devs and writers being coerced then bravo, otherwise it was weak. Infinite bright back a lot of what made 1 awesome, mesmerizing even, but the extreme patriotism thing got old real quick. The dimensional jumping storyline was on the cusp of greatness, but would have needed a few more DLC style side adventures to better tell it from other POVs.

4 is too late and implies more that they have no idea what else to do so back to this well and hope it’s not still dry.

  • If that person lives where I do, the local power company has stupidly high rates for doing that. The only real way to save is to go completely off grid. There are two plans, one pays you almost nothing for the excess solar produced, the other charges you “high demand” rates if you exceed some arbitrary usage number at your peak even if you produced all the power yourself. It’s so freaking confusing for no reason other than to punish you for trying to offset your power bill with solar energy.
