Depends if I’m passenger or crew. Working a ship sounds like a way bigger pain in the ass than my job.

Actually, it’s pretty alright! Being below deck during rough weather sucks and the morning after shore leave ain’t great either. But it wasn’t a bad gig.

My roommate went to Omega Mart a few days ago and all she got me was this pack of chewing gum and maybe covid. Hopefully not the covid, but she’s got it right now. :/

    Edit: got the covid too.

It came from Omega Mart, which my roommate visited when she was in Las Vegas a few days ago, I just took a picture of it.

I’ll pass on trans antarctic trips. I’m not a fan of the cold, and it’s very cold down there. Now trans Atlantic… YES!

Yeah no one ever got cold on a trans-atlantic ship, no sir, not even in April 1912.

When I was a kid my mother got me a book on the expedition of the Terror.

I will not be going on a trans arctic or antarctic voyage in a wooden ship.

Edit: NVM I’ll go. Risk is worth it. Call me up when you’re ready to embark

Shackelton did do that. He personally interviewed every crew memeber.

And he did a good job too. When thier boat became trapped in the ice they had to spend the entire antartic winter held up inside the immovable ship. I think it was like 9 months.

They had no altercations and were generally in good spirits.

Yeah, I think so. And then I guess they make you reverse it on the return trip. Maritime rules are weird.

When I was in my 20s, I seriously looked into getting a job in Antarctica. I kept looking at Raytheon’s job page to see if anything applied. There was no wooden ship, but it still sounded so romantic to me that I really thought it would be a great adventure.

So glad I never did it.

I’m questioning the logistics of dragging ships along across the antarctic mountains, but as long as I am one of those riding the ships instead of dragging, I’m game.
