At the TAIL END of World War 2? Who gives a fuck really? Either way someone kills him in that bunker and the war powers will probably say he killed himself anyway. No matter how much magical pardoning the blue button does, it would have to warp the entire world significantly for Hitler to live.

If it was the middle of WW2, then obviously the blue button - He’d be a practically useful agent who could speed up the fall of the Reich.

blue button reminds me of that manga trope where the big bad is sealed in a small, feminine body and brainwashed to be the MC’s girlfriend. The red button respects Hitler’s consent.

I would really like to see what the original meme maker’s idea of ‘atoning’ for the second world war and its associated genocides looks like. There’s no number of charity meals distributed, or rocks broken on a chain gang that makes up for 70+ million dead

If the blue button worked, he would let himself be captured by the Red Army, confess to everything he did, publicly denounce all his views and admit his total and utter failure as a leader. Then he’d be sentenced to death and he’d accept the verdict.

This, in turn, would just mean that all remaining nazis start simping for Rudolf Hess or some other unrepentend fascist trying to be more Hitler than Hitler. For some nazi ultras, that was already literally what happened, they glaze Hess because he didn’t kill himself and never showed remorse. They do a pathetic little march to his grave every year solely because of that. You cannot fix fascism by killing or reforming one guy, no matter how much the nazis themselves believe in great man theory. If their great man lets them down, they will find a way to cope. They are nazis, disavowing reality in favor of a mythology that justifies all of their crimes and makes them feel less pathetic is the one thing these nihilist fucks believe in.

So i’d press the red button, at least then i get to be the girl who killed Hitler. The actually important question is where to find the button that makes Stalin not stop at Berlin, but that would require the US not to have nukes. Alternative history is kinda pointless tbh.

I know the red-blue button debate and honestly it mainly seems like a sense of framing. Another way to put the dilemma would be

Everyone in the world is given a choice between pressing a red button and a blue button. Everyone in the world makes their own choice and presses one of the two buttons.
    Blue button: You Live.
Red button: You live. If more than 50% of the population presses the red button, then everyone who pressed the blue button dies.

The circumstances are exactly the same, the framing has changed. I don’t have a twitter so I won’t make that meme and even if I had I wouldn’t because I know I’d end up in several discussions with ignoramuses about how it’s the same.

I actually feel like the way it happened irl was better than either of these. Shooting himself in a hole in the ground like the pathetic little man he was, while soviet tanks rolled overhead.

Blue button. I’ll “pardon” him of all his crime if it keeps him from offing himself for long enough to fall into the hands of the Red Army. I guess we’ll see how heavy a liberal button manufacturer’s pardon weighs in a Soviet tribunal.

Using “would you kill or rehabilitate Hitler” as the hypothetical needlessly derails what could have been interesting. But honestly the whole premise feels like I’m confronting a one of the main villains in a 15 year old choices and consequences RPG, goofy

Sure, I’d press the “turn him into a good person” button, but that button doesn’t exist, it never has and never will.

I mean, yeah, imagine if you could just “turn people good” in an instant. That’s the ideal solution. We wouldn’t even be in this mess. Just solve capitalism lmao. “God, what the fuck have I been doing? All this wealth, from other people’s labor?? No, no, hit me. I deserve it.”
