Good.
Agreed, but if they are still giving money to alt-right idiots I’m going to keep them off my “buy” list. I’ll have to see if they are.
Edit: Looks like they are still giving money to DHH via rails, so I’m glad they are giving money to KDE, but framework still won’t get any more money from me. Hopefully its just old donations and it gets cleared off. Doesn’t look like they’ve been promoting that assholes stuff lately, at least.
Where did you find they’re still giving money to rails?
I came across this blog post on sponsorships, which I find a bit difficult to parse, but it doesn’t appear as if they’ve given anymore after the initial support.
Railsworld sponsorship, which is still massively outsizing most other support. What I don’t see is any more of the constant posts about Omarchy, which is a net improvemen but still not at the spot I personally want to see.
I understand that it’s about the Rails World 2025 donation, but where do you see they’re still supporting Rails?
Its in the list in the March 2026 blog post. Since there are no dates in the columns, to me that shows as “this year’s list of assigned donations”.
Because:
You can see our full set of our sponsorships in the table below. As always, let us know of any other organizations you believe we should sponsor!
I agree the post is unclear, but I’m not sure where you get your assumption of it being “this year’s list”. That is reading something in the text which isn’t there. Furthermore;
- Rails World is in all three iterations of the table in that post, which includes prior updates.
- The amount donated is $24,000 in all three cases.
- They all link to the same Rails World 2025 convention page.
That does not show continued support in and of itself.
And until they clarify, I will continue to assume its a current list. The ball isnt in my court to make it clear they have stopped supporting racist shitheads.
I do cringe just a tad at “We don’t partner based on individuals’ or organizations’ beliefs, values, or political stances outside of their alignment with us on increasing the adoption of open source software.” Mentioned here, but they do appear to do some research:
On Hyprland specifically, we were aware that there was past toxicity and controversy in their community, so we did research into it before deciding if we could sponsor the project. What we found was that there were past failures in moderation early in the creation of the project that had resulted in a toxic community, that the project lead vaxry had overhauled moderation years ago as a result, and that the community as it currently stands does not represent the one in which the issues occurred.
Though I cannot attest as to whether this clears anything/everything.
DHH is a millionaire, so I don’t think he cares. He’s also just one of many in the Rails project.
Instead of Framework, what else can you recommend?
There’s a whole list of things with DHH with FW, there are plenty of details so I’m not going through the whole thing. I’d also mention we’ve got a pretty obvious problem with millionaires and up with their quest for money currently causing massive problems around the world, so his being a millionaire is not a positive.
For open hardware? MNT.
Totally out of the loop here. What who where?
Edit: answered my own question. https://community.frame.work/t/framework-supporting-far-right-racists/75986
