Here’s a hot take you won’t find elsewhere: EVs are shit anyways, and not a good solution to our problems. The real solution is more investment in public transport and green hydrogen fuel cells, but it’s too hard to generate profits from either of those under capitalism, because the infrastructure costs required would be too great to be privately funded and public services are basically non-existent these days.
Green hydrogen. Yes, the Easter Bunny drives a car powered by green hydrogen.
Are you trying to make the claim that using renewable energy to perform electrolysis of water to generate green hydrogen is somehow fantastical?
It’s certainly possible, but doubtfully scalable for a global fleet of EVs. It still doesn’t solve the problems around strip mining rare elements. Trains and busses powered by overhead wires work fantastic and don’t need any of that.
It is far, far more sustainable and scalable than BEV. I am proposing hydrogen FCEV as a substitute for BEV and ICE vehicles. Trains and trolleybuses aren’t really relevant to this conversation as they can be direct electric driven.
They blame the politicians. While there is some truth in it, it is also childish.
