If we can hit 10,000 this year, that might start to get people’s attention. The next bad Covid or flu strain could really wipe some people out. I’m torn because, on one hand, the last decade has shown that accelerationism doesn’t work, but on the other, I want as many Trump voters as possible to die.

Yep. I want everyone who hasn’t voted Dem in every election in the last ten years to very personally feel every thing this administration does. The country is already dead and we’re all just refusing to acknowledge it, so since we’re all going to hurt I want as many of them to hurt as much as possible before hyperinflation and the camp roundups.

they probably won’t die due to modern health care that they will for sure revert to, but their kids will bear the scars of their parents twisted beliefs

The sad part is, it’s not Trump voters that will die. It’s their kids. And immunocompromised folks caught in the crossfire.

It’s sad and stupid, all the way down.

It kills people like me who are immune compromised and can’t get a vaccine due to specific immune illnesses.

So clinically vulnerable people like me rely on population level immunity or we get fucked.

^this. Also know that babies get their first measles vaccine at 12mo. So if you have a newborn you have bad options to keep them safe from the stupid/selfish that antivax is

I forget how this can affect immune compromised. Do you think that’s the point? A slow but deliberate shift to regulate the most vulnerable out of life? No, no one is that evil? Right?

My impression is that it was pretty organic. There’s been a large minority of antivaxers for a long time. They used to be more liberal coded, like hippie-dippie, new age, “all natural” kind of stuff. Then Covid threatened Trump’s re-election in 2020, and the right wing became reflexively contrarian against any attempt to mitigate it. And here we are, with most conservatives being antivax to one degree or another.

theres been big anti-vaccinw crowd on the right forever, mostly people in cults. it’s just spread to the regular stupids via osmosis from the religious stupids

stupidity is a virus that has to be actively suppressed lest it spread

Also stupid attracts stupid. The MAGA movement and Qanon stole all of the Democrats’ raw milk-drinking anti-GMO types. That’s part of how Trump put together a winning coalition. A confederacy of dunces.

Accelerationism is tempting but sadly the sheer amount of collateral damage more than offsets it. I’d much prefer something like immediate karma instead.

Ya, the only people this is effecting are those that vehemently chose this. No regerts.

At some point i do question if i have a moral obligation to save them from their own stupidity. Then i remember they also vehemently argue for rugged individuality. So no, their mental deficiency is not an excuse for me to stop them from self harm.

Edit: sorry, i realized after that this does effect many that are not able to be vaccinated for various reasons.

Without adequate vaccination and effective public health activity, 10K cases will be a daily occurrence.

Sadly measles mostly kills children and teens. So in these outbreaks they are most at risk.

On the positive side, it an also take out older adults who let their vaccinations lapse. This is true for many baby boomers and a few GenX.

I personally had the measles, mumps, and rubella as an infant. There were significant outbreaks of each one that year in my state. I was in the largest hospital in the state constantly for a birth defect and their quarantine procedures were shit.

I know these billionaire dweebs like Thiel and his ilk share a vision of the world they believe is over populated. I thought that was the genesis of the antivax rhetoric, but it isn’t consistent. They would lose power if there supporters were dropping while the opposition lived. Maybe they are speed running all the options, pestilence, war, famine
