Look at this photo.

Seriously. Why? Why are they such sellouts? They’re on a level of submissiveness worse than South Korea, because at least South Koreans see themselves as, well, Koreans. Even if they’re subject to the United States of America, they still see themselves as Koreans.

But, how about other parts of the world? Russia, China, Vietnam, DPRK, and many others. They make the rules, when these nations get bombed, they rebuild and get stronger. That’s agency. Our nations, unfortunately, due to our upper caste, they treat us like subjects. Like children or employees that need to be managed.

The South American right refuses to accept this, they think that: “If we just help America whip the other servants, the Americans will make us a Junior Boss.”

But the reality is another, the Monroe Doctrine is still going on with the total consent of our elites. America never promoted us as “Junior Boss” even after centuries of colonialism and total right-wing political dominance. The results were underwhelming and gave our people nothing but debt and dependency.

The left is rooted in the land and people, even the most moderate SocDem wings. They simply say: “This is our soil, our people, and country, let’s do our best within our time.” So, this gives them a spine, a soul. The right is rootless. They don’t love their land, they love the idea of being somewhere else, they don’t see themselves as “one of us” and would rather be American. They want to destroy local culture and Americanize it. They don’t even try to hide the hate they have for the poor.

And due to that, they cannot fight for themselves, there’s no spirit here because they rejected their own identity.

Let’s compare this. Eastern Europe lost tens of millions of people in two world wars, cities turned into ash. Has any of these people given up and decided to stop being themselves? No, they rebuilt. China was humiliated for a century by colonial powers and had a civil war later. Many struggled to defend their system, they did not beg for the Americans or the British to colonize them by force.

The right is just too spiritually broken to pay the price of sovereignty. They want the same comfort of their American master, without wanting the struggle.

That leads me to believe that you cannot be “patriotic” and be a right-wing in this part of the world because both contradict each other. If you want to be truly patriotic, you must want your country to talk to other nations as equals, not from a master-boss dynamic like the right does.

All in all, why are they like this?? Where did this all began? They have been “house slaves” for so long they have forgotten how to live outside the master’s house.

There is a very strong influence of American media and the Evangelical movement specifically pushed into all Latin American countries by the USA. After about 40 years, it has metastisized into what you see today. If you really want to see this influence, just check any number of whatsapp groups and on Facebook, where pro-USA right wing drivel is promoted to millions of people. I’m only familiar with the Brazilian side of things, and it’s actually awful how brainwormed people are. They have the same culture war bullshit as global north social media, and in some cases, I’d say it’s even more rabidly fascist.

Social media soft power is really important these days, and it can’t be ignored. I’m really not sure how we can tackle this problem because everyone is living in their own little fascist bubbles.

Because they hate being latinos and wants to sell the entire country bc they think the americans will see them as honorary whites. The original anti-american far-right/right that existed here during the 1910s - 1940s split into three groups after 1945: Weirdos who continued their ideology and became irrelevant. Opportunists who joined the mainstream liberal and conservative parties and begun bootlicking the US. And the ones who became far-left militants like Priest Helder Camera and José Joe Baxter (Leader of a fascist group in Argentina who hated the US so much that he went to Vietnam and Nicaragua so he could fight the Americans).

To add to comrade SkingradGuard’s comment: being Brazilian means that outside of a few things, we are generally stranded from our latine siblings, so I can’t really talk about this in the broad context of latin america as a whole, but I can on the context of Brasil at the very least, and here there is a combination of things that make our right so unpatriotic and sellouts.

Not only are we bombarded with USian productions, being that media, music, movies, games, etc., but also by their reasoning and full on propaganda. When I was little, everyone dreamed of going to Disney and of moving to the US, to live the good old yankee dream. Paired with that, I always heard of our culture, productions and people as inferior and corrupt, like, all the fucking time, no stop. So, we are told from the crib that the grass is greener on the other side. Only growing up did I start questioning those notions, and only after I saw the rise of fascism worldwide, otherwise I would still be an ignorant lib. In fact, we have an actual term for people like that, “vira-latas” (stray dog). It’s a pejorative term we use towards those that still nurture these feeling about ourselves and something the broad left here has full on embraced as an effective way of countering these thoughts and propaganda (to some extent at least).

But this by itself does not explain why this is such a widespread belief here. In fact it’s more than that. We also need to factor in how our bourgeoisie is also submissive and sellout to the international bourgeoisie. I cannot stress enough how much of a bunch of idiots these guys are, I’m not kidding. They rather let us all be exploited by daddy US and Europe than do the exploitation themselves, like, even when some energy company is privatized here, that shit suddenly gets taken over by some european company instead of one of our billionaires. Our bourgeoisie is also mostly comprised of a few big families dating centuries old that made their fortune with slaves, so I don’t think it’s out of realm of possibility to say they don’t really see themselves as Brazilians at the end of the day. This also applies to the media, where the big outlets are owned by a few families, tho there are a lot of smaller and independent media that counter their bullshit to varying degrees.

You pair that with the fact that we are also only told of the failed resistances and revolutions and aren’t really told of the successful ones here, and you get the picture. We have no Bolívar, we have no grand liberator or grand story of independence, it was merely another political play and “peaceful” transition. And when we hear of figures like Zumbi or Marighella, the right does everything they can to decry them as “murderers and assassins that the left want to reclaim” or something along these lines. Even when we look at more recent history, like in the 20th century, what we see are dictatorships, a failure of our communists of the past and a brutal military coup and dictatorship that lasted 21 years.

When we come to the 21th century, even if Lula and PT has been in power, no real sense of identity has been constructed and their liberal politics have only continued to sour the taste of the population, even if progress have been made, when figures like Bolsonaro, Renan Santos, Pablo Marçal and others rise promising to change everything, saying they are outsiders, all while spouting their vitriolic fascistic rhetoric, people fall like ducks into their discourse, and they are not subtle about any of this, specially their demonization of anything to basically to the left of Mussolini, where everyone is a fucking commie somehow.

Well, I think you can imagine the outcome of all that. The good thing tho is that communist influencers here have started to really show how much of a bunch of unpatriotic fucks these guys are.

I’m sure I missed stuff, and if someone can correct me if I got anything wrong, please do.

Also I have been putting off of reading it for a while now, but I always hear the book “Open Veins of Latin America” recommended to understand the impact of the pillage, colonization and underdevelopment we went through as a whole.
