    The article seems wrong on a couple of counts.

    Two stars colliding does not create a supernova.

    A white dwarf that consumes matter from a companion may eventually result in a type-1a supernova. But that’s not the same thing as two stars colliding.

      Bad science reporting as usual. I read the study and it doesn’t even hint at collision as a possible outcome of the binary system. It’s a potentially special system for study, but not because we are going to see stars collide or anything.

      Also “solved” is wrong. They presented a potential answer that needs more study.
