This quote from CBC seems to indicate people were harassing his family. There’s also some rumors going around that the Conservatives is blackmailing MP’s to prevent them from leaving.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/conservative-matt-jeneroux-resigns-9.6970100

The MP said he was “deeply grateful” for those who have reached out to him in recent days while also urging people to “please not attempt to contact my family during this time.”

As speculation ramped up around Parliament Hill over his potential floor crossing, a source close to Jeneroux tells CTV News that Conservative Party officials made it known to him that there would be consequences if he did floor cross. That led to a statement from his office that insisted he would not be leaving the party.

Yeah, there were definitely threats made.

Sharan Kaur, who contributes to CTV, is also saying this pretty directly. Apparently multiple sources all confirming the same thing.

Hopefully our dance with darkness is coming to a close. Every finger crossed. Maybe the conservatives can get back to centrality, instead of trying to rule like authoritarian nutcases.

Fascists? Moderating themselves? Not gonna happen. Besides, another couple of years of Carney fucking up and they’ll win no matter what they do.

Passing authoritarian laws, bending the knee to Trump, breaking that one strike (I might be misremembering this one) and failing to address the underlying issues plaguing Canadian society (something something housing crisis). He’s a halfway competent liberal technocrat, but status quo politics are only going to doom (and are, in fact, dooming) Canada.

Jeneroux is a 3rd term MP, and based on riding location and the 2025 polling (45% Lib 48% Con) Matt appears to have been a moderate conservative.

Clearly he’s not a good fit in Poilievre’s Maple MAGA party anymore. And his party faithful reportedly harassing him or people around him about it would confirm that. No way that would he have included “don’t contact me or my family” if it was just a normal decision to leave.

January’s going to be very interesting for PP.
