      1. everyone should be riding buses instead of driving cars, like for everything and not just school buses

      2. this is example #52357901083 of private schools leeching funds and resources from public schools

This article says a lot, but it doesnt really focus on money. How much of this is simply because of money. Every district I’ve been apart of, when they need to ask for a new school levy, always has shown what happens if the levy doesnt go through, and every single time, the top 2 items are extra curriculars and bussing. Sometimes everyone, sometimes just high school routes, sometimes just people who live within a certain distance of the schools.

Lack of busses and drivers sounds like a lack of funds to purchase/pay, and since theyre using whats available for the private schools, it sounds like the private schools are using their funds to pay for bussing.

Looks like they had some massive levies fail in the spring.

They’re being forced to prioritize busing kids going to charter schools on their dime while still stuck with the same resources they had before. So, you end up with new, overlapping routes and the public school kids are getting shafted.

Back in the day when I rode the bus it seemed like only elderly grandparent pensioners ever were drivers, just because they found it fun to interact with the kids. Seems it’s gotten so expensive not even these sorts can keep things going.
