Every church should apologise to every minority ever, as well as close their doors permanently.

Just outlaw religion tbh. It’s such a backwards anti-scientific regressive bullshit and oppression factory.

Religion seems to be a necessary mental and emotional crutch for some people to function. Do I like that? No, but at the same time I would no more try to get rid of all religion that I would throw someone’s physical crutches into a fire without being able to immediately replace them with something better. And we don’t appear to have a “something better” for these people yet.

The United Church of Canada is distinctly progressive, and if someone needs to follow a religion, I’d much rather they pick it rather than one of the pseudo-Christian Bible-thumping cults that thinks that anyone who isn’t a straight cismale is a lesser being. There still aren’t many religious groups who would make such an apology, alas.

I grew up in a united church, I’m agnostic/atheist now (I believe in the ideas and lessons that Jesus taught, but I know I can’t know the truth of the universe’s creation)

I will defend the united church, they’re generally a very open minded and accommodating community. I think it’s great they’re apologizing and trying to both make their mistakes clear and show they’re open to accept people.

As far as churches go, united church of Canada is a good community.

Illogical and irrational. Disable your emotions and reframe your thought patterns.

Science has no emotions and no opinions. It has observations, statistics, inferences, theories, and postulates.

It’s pattern matching based on the best available knowledge and forward looking educated guesses.

        cringe.

emotion, empathy, thoughtful discussion, philosophy, art, creativity… They’re all important to the human experience and to human progress.

Scientists are people too, you’re not “more rational” by denying your humanity, if anything that’s irrational.

Guess what: you’re still human, you are just convincing yourself you’re being completely rational.

Better late than never, I guess.

But a group that claims to teach about the ultimate source of morality in the universe ought to be better at not doing stuff they’ll have to apologize for later.

(And that isn’t limited to this particular church)

So is the god still homophobic or nah?

    Hate the sin <— Homophobia.

Love the sinner <— Glittered up homophobia

    Edit:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_and_the_United_Church_of_Canada

Looks like they’re fracturing over this actually. However, this still doesn’t clear the more liberal factions. Can the homosexuals taking official positions in a church have sex without it being a sin or are they sexually repressed and made celibate?
