Given how they also are making it harder for foreign intelligentsia to make their way to the States (despite the brief soyrage months back over Trump supposedly “importing” educated Indian workers en masse), I’m curious where the American Right thinks their country’s scientific base comes from. Trump is no less vocal than Biden about supposedly wanting to retake America’s unquestioned global dominance but whereas Biden’s policies at least salved the US’s decline, Trump’s policies are accelerating it.

Of course, it’s more likely that the bourgeoisie in general see the writing in the wall for America’s place in the world and are simply strip-mining the place for all its worth. Dems simply think it should be a more calm, measured operation while Reps want to be frantic about it while doubling down on immigration and culture war issues.

Honestly these fuckers are so high on their own supply of culture wars, part of me thinks most of them genuinely believe all science has been infiltrated by “woke” or whatever. I don’t think they’ve thought it through.

It feels to me like it’s going all in on ai, so hopefully they work out the kinks in grok so when it’s asked for a cure for cancer it doesn’t spit out a diatribe on censorship in video games.

i think so too, or at least that’s what their silicon valley libertarian faction has told them

and they are also just grifting and know it’s all going down, except for a few true believers

The scariest part for me is I just flat out don’t know how much of it all is grifters and how much is true believers. They honestly seem to be going all in on this in a way that only makes sense if the majority of them are true believers.

i think the lines are blurring. cognitive dissonance dominates the corporate world, especially at the higher levels. you openly state/believe one thing, internally another contradictory thing.

eventually though the human mind can’t handle it and you either somewhat disassociate those two sides of yourself or leave one at work and one at home. but modern tech won’t allow this. you have to be on 24/7. so you can’t compartmentalize anymore.

so you may have doubts but still operate as a true believer, because true believer = paycheck/stock options/wealth/power. it becomes one and the same as the Grift.

you forget you are playing a role and doing an act and i guess just go full method acting. fully immersed, LARPing, whatever to get ahead.

certainly feels that’s happening to the silicon valley types and by extension the ruling class.

Yeah, it’s much more about greasing palms and kissing ass to get ahead than it is about actually “believing” anything, it’s a post-truth environment at this point. Reminds me a lot of the corruption in the late Russian Empire and Warlord era China. Capitalism probably just inevitably leads to this sort of thing.

The court’s action came in a brief, unsigned order. Its three liberal justices dissented.

I just saw this Bluesky post by a lawyer.

Sotomayor’s dissent in the DOE decision is worth reading.

    A reply

    Pretty savage.

    I’m stealing that.
